Day 30 (6/8/12). to Moorcroft, Wyoming.

Becky and Darrell.  We hadn't made it to Gillette the day before due to headwinds, and there were no campgrounds or motels.  Night was near, and we saw a light on at this house, and went up and asked if we could pitch our tent in their yard for the night.  They invited us in, and we spent the night in a room in their basement. Two nights of unexpected hospitality!
Mari, Becky, Darrell, Terry. About 12 miles west of Gillette.

Amax coal mine, west of Gillette.  Huge hole in the ground. Darrell told us that the house rocks and they have cracks in their house from the explosions from the coal mine.

Terry was in a lot of hernia pain when we left  Becky and Darrell's. After lying by the road four different times, he pulled into the airport, and rested in there for two hours before we cycled to Gillette.
After Gillette, on our way to Moorcroft.  We saw Sam in the Gillette bike shop, and he recommmended going on I-90.  He'd been to Moorcroft on the side road yesterday, had bike problems and got a ride back to Gillette. He said the side road was very bumpy, and thought it would be a rough ride for Terry's hernia.  So we took I-90, and these were our views. Ugly!!!!
Gillette is the wealthiest area per capita in the country, we heard.  Lots of money from energy.  The energy industry isn't complementary to the natural landscape, though.
Wyoming oi from all those dinosaurs.

A challenging day, as my hernia was hurting for the first time, starting out. I think the headwinds the prior day and that morning were a big factor. Stopped for a new tire in Gillette. Hot. Headwinds. Motel for comfort after my rough morning. Problem with hernia in am.  48.7 miles. Bike repair Gillette. Total 1532.8 We started seeing mega-numerous motorcyclists on large Harley's and other bikes. We talked with numerous motorcyclists. They gave much praise for our trek and were nice folks.
