Day 42 (6/20/12) to Sioux Falls, SD.

Mitchell campground.   Yesterday was 100 degrees. This cabin was cool, and there was a big storm during the night. We would have been soaked in the tent.

We went swimming in the camp pool yesterday afternoon when we arrived in the 100 degree heat.  We practically rode our bikes straight in the pool without getting off to change clothes.

The Mitchell Corn Palace changes its exterior decoration annually.  Donations are used to pay for the corn and plants, and to pay workers.  These young guys are employed to help get the decorations ready.
This guy was stapling up long greenery.  The exterior starts getting changed in June, and then the corn goes up in August.
Football scene made of corn.

Interior auditorium.  These scenes are permanent.  The auditorium is used for concerts, basketball tournaments, fancy events.

That's a cute corn baby.

The Mitchell Corn Palace was first established in 1892, to entice people to come to the area and farm.
