Day 40 (6/18/12) to Oacoma, SD

Prairie of South Dakota

South Dakota prairie

Water sighting in South Dakota!  A mirage on a hot cycling day?

Mari in the rare shade of a grove of trees at a South Dakota farm.  Trees and their shade were glorious.

We love our bikes

A farmer invited us to come up to his house and use his water. Terry dunks his head, and then his shirt, under the cold stream. It was really cold, too!

Mari, Nate, Henry, and Julien.  These three guys started from Chicago, and were heading to Portland, then to San Francisco.  We exchanged info and we invited them to stay at our house when they came to Portland. (They did, too, for three nights--thanks, Bethany, for hosting them!)

South Dakota prairie

Mari and not much else out in the South Dakota prairie. Where are those shade trees?  Not on the prairie, that's for sure.
Daily: 75 miles. Total: 1981.5. Hot, muggy. Camped overlooking the Missouri River.
